OK!  So, Tree 14!  It was SUPPOSED to be MY PERSONAL tree...( well, 1 of 4 that I put up, my MAIN 10 foot tree)  HOWEVER....Turns out my GiNormous tree has "Strands of Lights Out" disease!
YEP!  I have never wanted to YANK MY EYEBALLS out of my head MORE!  This was the Scene at my house last evening..
.This is the conversation: K = me   B= Bobby/Hubby
K=No, THAT is the 2nd section of the tree..
B=No, its THIS one...
K=No its not Bobby, its this one, hello, I do this tree every year and its over here!
B= OK!  Oh your right Kara (He doesnt say "your right" but I was!)
K= Now that is the 3rd section and the Top one is this one.
B= OK Kara, now we have to plug em all in together!
K= Ok, here is the top section plug to piggy back to lower section

HERES where it gets CRAAAAAAZY!
Well, heres another plug, not plugged in...Where does IT go?  Ok...Its in, did the lights come on?  Nope! NO WAY!  Oh wait Heres ANOTHER PLUG...let me plug THAT ONE IN...Anything???  Yep , they are on!  Good...now the NEXT SECTION!  SAME CONVERSATION AS ABOVE!  Then...Moving on to Connecting Section 3 to section 2...SAME CONVERSATION, YET AGAIN, as above....On to Section 2 connected to section 1!!!!  SAME CONVERSATION as above!
This is where the FUN begins!
Lets step back and look at the BEAUTIFUL TREE!  WAIT!  There are lights out there, there and there!  SHOOT!  Dig back into the tree to UNPLUG and REPLUG to find the BAD STRAND!  WARNING!  One needs to be wearing a PROTECTIVE Astronaut type suit to do this!  Otherwise...Looks like you got into a CATFIGHT with 10 cats and LOST!
OK...did they come on? NO!...What about NOW?....NO!  CRAPOLA!  We will come back to this section...moving on to the next...OK, are they on now?  NO!   UUUUGGG!  Oh, heres ANOTHER PLUG, let me try it!  Well, Anything?  Anything?  Beuller...Bueller...Beuller....Anything?  Beuller???  (LOVE that movie  by the way!)
NO!  NOTHING IS COMING ON!  Wwwwaaaaaaaaa!!!!  OH!  Lets feed  10 extension cords down the trunk of the tree and just plug ALL the Plugs into those!  DID IT!  Stilllllll, NO LIGHTS!
This goes on and on and on....OH!  Lets get our Handy Dandy Tree Light ZAPPING Box!  AAAAAWESOME  DUDE!!!  These are the BEST creation EVA!  OK....Plug that one into the BOX and lets Zapp It!  WHAT!!!!!  The Button on the ZAP BOX is BROKEN?????????????????

Oh Kara! What a fiasco! I have been afraid to buy a prelit tree until someone can prove to me that it is easy to fix the lights if they burn out!!! We have a 10 foot tree also. I thought it would be so great since we have cathedral ceilings in the family/foyer. Did I stop to think about how much work it is to put the dang thing up????? NOPE! Every year I just do a heavy sigh when we open the box... Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Thank you so much for sharing your lighting tree fiasco.... i'm so glad to know it's just not at my house that those things happen!! Tree lights are soooo frustrating! Now that i've read your post and seen your pictures i'm ready to dig into my boxes right after i dig out the turkey from the freezer!!!

I am in the same boat! Ended up adding lights to my pre-lit tree plus now the tree stand is bent and the "HEAVY" tree won't stand up straight...ugh, very frustrating considering we paid mega $$$ for this tree a few years ago.

Have a great day & a Happy Thanksgiving! XOXO ~Liz

P.S. Thank you bunches for your sweet comments on my posts...you ROCK!! =)Oh, and I have a new button on my site if you would like to grab that one and discard the one that isn't sized correctly. *blush*

I would never buy a pre-lit tree for this very reason! We use our trees until they shed half of their fake little needles! LOL
I think most grounds for divorce begin with tree trimming.
My DH cannot remember how we do things from year to year and we have to go through the same thing over and over again. It's like in that movie- Groundhog Day!
He likes colored lights and I like white lights- that was always a major thing and then I found a pencil tree- which he hates, but we don't have to remove HIS recliner to put it up.
We finally developed some brain cells and now we plug the new lights in and then put them on the tree- so if they happen to go out- we know right then and there that something went wrong. And yes, we put new lights on every year.
This man of mine has argued every year on what will look good instead of taking my word for it from the get go. He has no design tastes any other time of the year, so why should it spark all of a sudden?
I am so glad we are not the only family that has troubles with the darn tree.
Hugs to you and hope your light fairy gets in gear! Tete

Hi Kara,
You are so funny!! I really needed to laugh, thank you! But your exactly right about those darn trees, deadly!! :0)
I absolutely love your blog and those trees are amazingly beautiful! Thank you so much for stooping by my blog and for becoming a new follower, it is such a pleasure to meet you! And thank you from the bottom of my heart for the lovely words about my Mom and for your prayers, it really means a lot to me and her!
I am now your newest follower and can't wait to read back over your posts.
Have a lovely day and a very Happy Thanksgiving.

I hate putting lights on trees. It's always so stressful for me! I love pre-lit trees but they do have their own set of issues!

Ann said...

I'm not positive, but I think decorating for Christmas might be the single most common reason for divorce. Why does it have to be so stressful? Hope you get your zapper back today.

Traci said...

Soooo pretty!!! Umm I thought owls were birds??? OK so here's a confession.... Nutcrackers scare me. So this is EXACTLY why I'm not around when the actual tree gets put together. Dean does a fab job putting it together & making sure all the lights work. We haven't had strands burn out just a couple of individual ones that we've had to replace. Dean said before he put it up that if any of the lights didn't work we were buying a new tree!

Looking forward to seeing what is in your Etsy shop!!

Okay, I just browsed through your blog and I am in awe. Girl, you have skills!!! Of course I'm going to have to go back a few more times to take it all in again and make sure I didn't miss anything. Ha! Glad to meet you. I'm gonna go enter your giveaway.

Kim

Those owls are cute as heck! Fuzzy little noggins. I can say with all honesty I don't envy your tree problems :) Ouch. But a 10 foot tree wow impressive. I thought my 7 footer was something lol. That is pitiful in comparison :)
Have a merry Christmas mama!

How do we find your etsy store? =)

Denise said...

Well my tree is only 7ft tall and I still have that problem each year with the plugs! I bought one of those guns to help fix broken lights but can't for the life of me figure out how it works! I've only tried it on my outdoor summer lights though and it didnt' work. I'm hoping to try it on the tree this week because i know there is one section out and I just had to wrap extra lights around it last year! Hope you get yours fixed soon so we can see how you decorate ;)

Hi Kara,
So sorry to hear about the lights, that's terrible! Tomorrow's another day though and I know it will be beyond beautiful. Love what you've shown in the post, really gets me in the holiday spirit! Good to meet you. Now, here's to the lights being just right next time!

I promise I am only laughing because I SOOOO relate! I say "tis the season for under the breath muttering"! I once got the entire tree lit and decorated by myself and went to trim a branch and snipped the light wire and had to completely undecorate it and start over...let's just say that I was very close to becoming a swearin' woman! So, I totally feel your pain but I know it will be stunning when it is all done! :-)
Happy Thanksgiving!

Hi Kara,
I'm visiting from Sunday Favorites. Your candy cane tree is amazing! I love candy canes, peppermints and the overall look of red and white. I've actually been working on a peppermint/Santa tree for my downstairs. Where did you find that precious Nutcracker? Another favorite.

Holiday lights can be such a pain in the neck. Bulbs out, brand new boxes not working...ugh! I've just accepted the fact that the lights will be a fiasco each year and plan for it now. If I already expect it then I don't get as aggravated. I did a short post on threading lights through trees. I'm also going to follow you so I can read your decorating tips. Christmas is beautiful and all of your photos are too.

Blessings,
Shanna

Ooh. I've been thinking about the lights all day, wondering how many strands will have mysteriously died since last winter, lol! Your post cracked me up!

And the trees you shows are just fantastically beautiful. Wow.

Hi Kara...

Ohhh nooo...I just hate when that happens!!! When the Christmas tree lights aren't working...I mean! Girlfriend, I do hope that you are able to get them all working...eeeks! Well, my solution to the tree light madness...is to had that job off to my husband! I do everything but LIGHTS!!! He's an electrician so I feel that my tree lights are in good hands...wink!!!

Well my friend, I just adore all of your beautiful Christmas decor! I can't even begin to imagine how magical your home must look at Christmas with all of these fabulous trees!!! Can't wait to see your home with all of these! I love, love, LOVE the Christmas candy cane tree and decor! Ohhh...the little cupcake ornaments are awesome...sooo adorable! Love those adorable owls too! Girlfriend, what a creative and talented lady you are!!! I think I need some of your creative genes...and energy as well! Warmest wishes,
Chari @Happy To Design

PS...Girlfriend, I just cracked up when I read all of your notes! I fixed the multiple links but then lost your link on Mr.Linky altogether. I ended up having to add it at the end of the list (sorry)! Hehe...we make quite the pair...I think!!!
